First, use your measuring tape and drill to mark out where you want the seat supports to go. We made ours 30″ wide, but you can adjust the width to fit your needs. Cut two pieces of plywood at 30″x36″, then use those as templates to mark and cut four more pieces at 30″x48″. These will be the sides of the backrests. Next, use your jigsaw to cut eight 2x4s down to 24″, then attach them perpendicularly between the shorter sides of the plywood using wood screws or nails. This will create a frame for each backrest.

Now it’s time to add some padding! Cut eight pieces of foam padding slightly smaller than the dimensions of each frame, then wrap them in fabric before stapling them in place around all four sides. Be sure to pull the fabric taut so there are no wrinkles or sagging spots. Finally, position your new backrests on your boat bench seat and secure them in place using L brackets or other heavy duty hardware . Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor – literally!

Make sure everything is level and square before screwing everything together . 4 . Once the seats are assembled , you can stain or paint them if desired .

We left ours natural so they would match our boat’s existing upholstery . 5 . Install the seats in your boat where desired , using screws to secure them in place . That’s it ! You now have custom made jump seats for your boat !
